The effect of turning off monitors when not in use
Did you know! That turning off a computer monitor when not in use overnight and on weekends can save an average of $30 per year in electricity costs? ๐
Electricity generation is one of the biggest contributors to carbon dioxide emissions, which is a major factor in climate change.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the average electricity generation emits1.222 pounds of CO2 per kWh (kilowatt-hour). Turning off a single computer monitor when not in use for 12 hours a day can save about 107 kWh per year. This corresponds to reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 131 pounds per year, or the equivalent of the emissions from about 13 gallons of gasoline or driving a car 1,300 miles.
So, what do you think? Donโt you think we should turn off unused monitors whenever we find them?:D This little action can have a positive impact on reducing carbon dioxide emissions and can be considered an essential action to reduce the carbon footprint of an individual, organization, or society.
